Vaughan
Lodge Hotel, Lahinch is a return to a
proud family tradition
of hotel keeping. Michael
and Maria built this intimate
designer hotel in 2005.
The Vaughan philosophy is to offer
honest fare in comfortable
surroundings with a real
sense of hospitality and
personal care. Our guests
are travellers who enjoy smaller
properties and the intimacy
of the old style approach to
hotel management.
For over 4 generations
the Vaughan Family have
been hosts to visitors
to Lahinch. The original
Vaughan's hotel was established
in the 1850 when Andrew
Vaughan and his wife Annie
ran a shop and boarding
house.
That building,
on main street was tragically
burned to the ground in
1922 during reprisals
by the Black and Tans
for the Rineen ambush.

Young Miko Vaughan was
faced with the task of
rebuilding the property
with his mother a feat
they achieved by 1926.
An only son, Miko later
married Brid Murphy from
nearby Glann and they
reared Andy, Eileen, Micheal,
Kevin, Brendan, Joe and
Eamonn.

The hotel was
subsequently run by Michael
and Philomena Vaughan
and later renamed Vaughan's
Atlantic Hotel.
Michael and Philomena Vaughan
The
Vaughan family settled
mostly locally, with
Kevin, Joe, and Eamonn
involved in various
capacities in tourism
within the County. May
visitors to the Cliffs
of Moher will fondly
remember Joe, curator
and manager of the visitors
centre at the Cliffs
for many years. Brendan
was headmaster in Dereen,
Liscannor, and a regular
in many of the teams
at the Golf Club.
Moving
with the times, Micheal
and Phil bought the
Aberdeen Arms Hotel
and added 30 bedrooms
and car parking in 1970
and along with his brother
Eamonn successfully
ran the only 3 star
property at the resort
until their retirement
in 1989.
Aberdeen Arms Hotel
Micheal
and Phil had a well
earned reputation for
hospitality and care
that won them many national
accolades over the years.
The restaurant at the
Aberdeen Arms was the
place to dine for over
three decades.
Eamonn
Vaughan was Chef de
Cuisine and manager
at the Aberdeen Arms
and later, in 1989 went
on to establish Mr Eamonn's
restaurant in the village.
Eamonn and Rita Vaughan
continued the Vaughan
tradition of care and
hospitality and set
the benchmark for dining
quality in the resort
throughout the 90's.
The
Vaughan family are one
of the oldest families
in the resort and have
been prominent in the
business, cultural and
social life of the village.
At one time, the family
ran the Aberdeen and
Atlantic hotels, the
Post Office, Garage
and Micheal was chairman
of the Lahinch Development
Association, president
of the Irish Hotels
Federation and Chairman
of Shannonside Regional
Tourism.
